the guelder-rose berries are so red
the rest of the garden sleeps
tonight I have awful things in my head
secrets that I can't keep
if only I'd turn around instead
but the guelder-rose berries look so sweet
there in the dark I tasted red
the berries were all that I could see
some little thing there in the dark
took over the rest of me that night

here in the dark I cannot sleep
swallowed up in my own net
everything tastes like berry red
and I can't forget that night
