Sinfinis Welcomes Kai Kennedy - June 30, 2010

You may have seen him on stage with me already, but brace yourself for more.  I am thrilled to announce that Kai Kennedy has signed on as an official member of Sinfinis!  An eclectic music lover of dark taste, Kai (Hephaestus, Glyph) is a self-taught musician with an amazing voice, who plays guitar, bass, piano, drums, and computer.  He might be a cyborg.  His influences include Massive Attack, Deftones, and Radiohead, and he hopes to bring a trip-hop / dub / jazz flavor to Sinfinis' sound.  (Yeah, you read that right.)  We are currently writing and recording at SkyFire Records (which Kai happens to own and operate) and are working on a live set, which you will be able to hear for the first time on Saturday, July 24 at Just Bills in St. Louis!

Speaking of live shows, my next one with Jason Cook is July 30 at Off Broadway, opening for Jim Rose Sideshow!  And speaking of Jason, he and I are also doing some recording...

Lots of new stuff for you to hear...and see...coming soon!

Sinfinis Weekend - March 1, 2010

Thanks to everyone who came out to see us play at Harrah's VooDoo Lounge and/or The Library over the weekend!  Photographer Peter Wochniak was on site at VooDoo taking photos of our set - check them out HERE.  More great shots from both shows will be posted on sinfinis.com and the Sinfinis MySpace page SOON!

New Music + Special Guest at VooDoo Show - February 15, 2010

A few things which might compel you to swing by Harrah's in Maryland Heights on Friday, February 26...

* an array of restaurants "to satisfy your every culinary whim"
* 120,000-square-feet of gaming space
* the pretty lights outside the parking lot
* Sinfinis will be playing there that night, at the VooDoo Lounge!

And if the prospect of seeing us electro-rocking one of St. Louis' best venues (plus the other stuff listed above) isn't enough to get you there, keep in mind that we have new music AND a special treat planned for that night: Jeff D'Ambrosio on guitar!  You don't know who he is?!  Meh, neither did I, but he's cheap (though he won't do just anything for a Klondike bar).  Seriously, though - Jeff is a good friend of mine who happens to be a stellar guitarist, and he'll be joining us all the way from New York City.  From 2001-2008, he played for NONE MORE EVIL, which enabled him to embark on many adventures, including touring with Alice in Chains and being harassed by Steven Adler for ice cubes backstage at a show.  He currently plays in endorsed-by-Liberty DeVitto hybrid For Whom the Bell Joels, a tribute band which plays Billy Joel songs in the style of Metallica (yes, I'm serious).

Come out and see Jeff work some magic on the VooDoo stage with us on Feb 26!  (Print your FREE ticket at sinfinis.com!)  If you can't make it (and I feel sorry for you if you can't), be sure to come by The Library in Soulard the following night to see Jeff and me perform a special acoustic set before he heads back to the Big Apple.

* * * Hope to see you on the 26th / 27th! * * *

Burning Up the Firebird January 21

10 Goals for 2010 - December 31, 2009

First, I want to extend a ginormous THANK YOU to everyone who has supported Sinfinis during the past year. Whether you downloaded a Sinfinis song, came out to a show, bought a CD, forwarded someone a link to the website, took photos or video of a performance, posted flyers around town or throughout cyberspace, harrassed me about the magazine cover shot, tuned in to a radio broadcast, or replied to one of these posts with some encouraging words, I sincerely and humbly thank you for giving your time and attention to my band. 2009 was beautiful and busy. I could not be doing this without people like you.

Here are a few things I'm hoping to see happen during the next 12 months:

1. Expand listenership. Contacting commercial, college, and internet radio stations is crucial to getting one's music heard. It's also immensely time-consuming. If you're willing to help, please send an e-mail message to info@sinfinis.com.

2. Record more music. New songs are begging for release from their confinement in my mind. Remixes of songs from The Edge of a Knife are floating somewhere in the space-time continuum, waiting to be captured.

3. Produce a music video. Have ideas. Have professional contacts. Lack funds. Are you / do you know a talented film student in need of portfolio material?

4. Book more shows at venues we haven't played yet. So far, so good! Catch us at the Firebird on January 21 (with Sean Renner, Glitch Factor, and Final Veil) and at VooDoo Lounge on February 26 (details TBA)!

5. Offer Sinfinis merchandise. I've never factored things like t-shirts into the budget, but now that a number of people have asked me about them, I am starting to look into ordering a few. Please tell me if you might be interested in purchasing a shirt or some other item that you can proudly display on your person or in your home or office. (Sinfinis coffee mugs? Rulers? Wrist bands? Key chains? Bottle openers? Yo-yos?)

6. Participate in more events with local charities and other community service organizations. Off to a good start...the January 21 show will be sponsored by LiveFeed. Bring a non-perishable food item to the show and get a FREE CD or other merchandise from one of the artists on the bill!

7. Utilize more social networking tools. Thanks to a good friend and loyal supporter, you can now follow Sinfinis on Twitter and become a fan at Reverbnation! And if you haven't already, add Sinfinis to your network on MySpace and Facebook.

8. Turn Sinfinis into a more lucrative enterprise. It should be reeeeally obvious by now that I am NOT in this for the money. As many of you know, merely sharing my music has always been more important to me than turning a profit. This is still the case. But let's face it - in order to produce more quality recordings (see items 2 and 3 above), I need cash. So, if you have the dough and the inclination, please buy a CD, or share a link to the music with a friend and encourage him or her to buy one. Or buy other merch when it's available (see #5 above). Or come to a show. Or ask me how to make a donation.

9. Talk Jason Cook into becoming a permanent member. He's been a hired gun up to this point, which is absolutely fine, but I'd love for him to be a bigger part of Sinfinis. If you've had the pleasure of seeing Jason in all his electro-awesomeness at one of our shows, and you think that he ROCKS, please post a comment on this blog or send me a message with a compliment that I can forward to him. Perhaps flooding his inbox with flattery will encourage him to sign on. (No pressure, Jason.)

10. Acquire additional band members. This year, my songs met the stage with a variety of instrumentation, from acoustic guitar to glockenspiel to flute to synth/keys to voice alone. Know a fantastic bassist? You shred on guitar? Play a mean set of spoons? Call me.

If you read this far, you're ultra-committed, and I thank you again.

Wishing you a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year!

The Map Room CANCELS The STL SHE! SHOW Last Minute!!! - September 5, 2009

The STL SHE! SHOW scheduled for tonight at The Map Room has been CANCELED!

We were planning to play outside in the Courtyard.

As recently as last night, the venue owners had told us that if it rained then the show would proceed indoors.

Today, the owners changed their minds. The Map Room owners have decided to cancel the entire show, despite our protests.

Sinfinis is VERY VERY SORRY - especially for the inexcusably late notice - and we hope that The Map Room's poor judgment and unprofessional decision will not reflect badly on Sinfinis or any of the other artists.

If you would like to register your displeasure - purposefully but politely - please contact The Map Room directly via telephone or email at:

FOLLOW-UP

"The show must go on." ~ Old Performance Adage

This is Mary Elizabeth of Sinfinis. In my view, The Map Room's cancelation was extremely unprofessional and unfair to the four bands on the bill, to live artist Pl@stic, as well as to the unknown number of people who planned to attend the show. If you share my view, and if you are able to gently and politely bring your opinion to The Map Room's attention - without "flaming" or being vitriolic - then I encourage you to do so. I DO NOT encourage you to do so out of petty vindictiveness or spite, but out of the belief that gentle correction should be used when it is warranted and in the hope that such correction will help to enhance The Map Room's professionalism. The St. Louis music scene cannot reach a higher level of professionalism without accountability. I agree with the following principle:

"True peace is not the absence of conflict, it's the presence of justice."

~ attributed to Martin Luther King Jr.

The views expressed here are solely mine and my husband / business consultant, Matthew J. Bell's, not necessarily the views of the members of Wack-a-Doo, Sheila Shahpari, Blue, Bradley Pipkin (Pl@stic), or the show promoter, Craig Scheffer.
